This 7-day journey through Bhutan is reimagined to center around the Thimphu Tshechu, the Kingdom’s most spectacular religious festival. Beginning in Paro, your trip follows the pulse of the celebration to the capital, where you’ll join thousands of locals in their finest traditional attire at the Tashichho Dzong to witness sacred mask dances and ancient rituals. Beyond the festive energy of Thimphu’s Memorial Stupa, you’ll journey to the serene Punakha Dzong and conclude with the ultimate spiritual ascent: a hike to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery.
ITINERARY
Day 1 (17 Sep): Arrive in Paro, drive to Punakha with stops at Tamchoe Monastery and Dochula Pass.
Arrive at Paro International Airport at where you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and driver. Embark on a scenic three-hour drive to Punakha, the old capital. En route, make a short stop at the picturesque Tamchoe Monastery, dramatically perched above the Paro River. En route, stop at the breathtaking Dochula Pass (3,100m), where 108 memorial chortens crown the ridge and, on clear days, panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks stretch across the horizon. Check in to the hotel upon arrival.

Day 2 (18 Sep): Explore Punakha including Khamsum Chorten, Punakha Dzong, Chimi Lhakhang and local market.
This morning, hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a beautiful hilltop temple offering sweeping views of the Punakha Valley. You have an option to go river rafting in the Punakha Mochu river. Head to the magnificent Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Enjoy a walk across the suspension bridge, offering panoramic views of the river and valley below. After lunch visit Chimi Lhakhang, the revered Temple of Fertility, surrounded by picturesque rice fields and traditional villages. Before returning to the hotel, stop by the local Kaja Throm local market.

Day 3 (19 Sep): Drive to Phobjikha Valley, visit Gangtey Goenpa Monastery and Black-Necked Crane Center.
Take a scenic 2.5-hour drive to the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, one of Bhutan’s most pristine glacial valleys and an important wildlife conservation area. Upon arrival, visit the revered Gangtey Goenpa Monastery, perched above the valley and offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Next, visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Center, dedicated to the conservation of the endangered cranes that migrate here each winter. Check in to your hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening, relaxing amidst the tranquil highland surroundings.

Day 4 (20 Sep): Leisure morning in Phobjikha then drive to Thimphu; visit Buddha statue, Memorial Chorten, Takin Preserve.
Enjoy a leisure morning in Phobjikha this morning before taking a 3.5 hour drive back to Thimphu. Upon arrival in Thimphu, visit to the Buddha Dordenma Statue, offering panoramic views over the valley, before visiting the Memorial Chorten Stupa, a revered monument where locals gather daily for prayer. Enjoy lunch at an authentic Bhutanese restaurant, sampling traditional flavors. Check in the hotel and later in the afternoon, visit the Mothithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s rare national animal, followed by a short nature walk to Wangditse Monastery, a serene hilltop temple with sweeping views of Thimphu.

Day 5 (21 Sep): : Experience the first day of Thimphu Tsechu Festival and explore Thimphu town.

Day 6: Early morning hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Paro.
On your final day in Bhutan, take an early 1.5 hour drive to Paro. Head to the base of the Tigers Nest Monastery (Taktsang), to hike to the iconic Monastery, allowing you to experience this legendary site in the soft morning light before the crowds arrive. Perched dramatically on a cliffside nearly 900 meters above the Paro Valley, the monastery offers breathtaking views and a deeply spiritual atmosphere. The remainder of the day will be kept flexible, allowing you to relax, explore at your own pace, or enjoy any additional activities as suggested by your personal guide.
