ITINERARY
Day 1 (27 Sep): Arrival & Ulaanbaatar City Tour
Welcome to Mongolia! Upon your arrival, your Avantour guide will meet you at the airport, hand you your local SIM card, and provide a smooth transfer to the city. Today, you will enjoy a guided city tour of Ulaanbaatar, taking in iconic sights like Sukhbaatar Square to kick off your Mongolian adventure.
Day 2 (28 Sep): Flight to the Wild West
After breakfast, head to the airport for a quick domestic flight to Ulgii, the gateway to Mongolia's wild west. Upon landing, you will take a guided city tour of Ulgii, soaking in the unique Kazakh culture and atmosphere of this remote province.
Day 3 (29 Sep): Into the Altai Mountains
Leave the city behind as you drive deep into the rugged Altai Mountains. Spend the day exploring these majestic, snow-capped peaks and vast valleys, breathing in the fresh mountain air and taking in the incredible natural beauty.
Day 4 (30 Sep): Hiking and Horse Riding
Immerse yourself in the nomadic lifestyle today. You will spend the day hiking through the beautiful wilderness and enjoying a traditional horse riding experience through the open landscapes of the Altai Mountains.
Day 5 (1 Oct): The Twin Lakes of Khoton and Khurgan
Today, you will drive to and explore the stunning Khoton and Khurgan Lakes. Located near the border, these pristine, mirror-like alpine lakes offer some of the most breathtaking and peaceful views in all of Mongolia.
Day 6 (2 Oct): Return to Ulgii
After a few days of wilderness exploration, enjoy a scenic drive back to the town of Ulgii. Rest up, take a hot shower at your accommodation, and prepare for the excitement of the upcoming festival.
Day 7 (3 Oct): The Golden Eagle Festival (Day 1)
Head to Shar Nuur to experience the world-famous Golden Eagle Festival. Watch the grand opening ceremony as Kazakh hunters parade on horseback in their traditional furs, proudly displaying their golden eagles. Spend the day watching thrilling eagle hunting competitions and traditional nomadic games.
Day 8 (4 Oct): The Golden Eagle Festival (Day 2)
Enjoy your second day at the Shar Nuur Golden Eagle Festival. Witness more incredible displays of speed, agility, and the deep bond between the hunters and their eagles. It is a fantastic day for photography and interacting with the local Kazakh nomads.
Day 9 (5 Oct): Return Flight & Terelj National Park
Take a domestic flight from Ulgii back to Ulaanbaatar. Once you land, drive out to explore the beautiful Terelj National Park. You will visit the massive Chinggis Khaan Statue shining in the sun, and see the famous Turtle Rock, a massive natural rock formation in the park.
Day 10 (6 Oct): Departure
Enjoy a final breakfast in Mongolia. Your private driver will provide a direct transfer to the airport for your journey back home, bringing your unforgettable Golden Eagle expedition to a close.
